Modern-day heroes are often depicted as fighters and warriors, always ready to defeat evil and protect the oppressed. But, then, some work diligently to mold the hope of our future—our teachers. They champion education for the children so that they may become the pillars of society in the future. Teachers do not get enough credit as everyday heroes despite their crucial role. Their successes are overlooked and ordinary in society, but it’s not easy being an educator. Here are the reasons teachers deserve praise as unsung heroes of our community.
1-Seeing potential in everyone
A teacher goes beyond simply memorizing the names on the register. They form a bond with every student and understand their aspirations and motivations. Educators don’t have to take the time or have this compassion, but they willingly do so for the children's sake. If a student's family cannot afford school supplies, Teachers often provide these for them without hesitation. In addition, when a student struggles with lessons, teachers may arrange for one-on-one classes to ensure no one falls behind. Teachers go to great lengths to enhance every student’s potential. Often, they never give up even when the odds are against them—limited face-to-face classes, dwindling resources, and the general stress of teaching. They always make sure that every child gets the attention they deserve.
2-They build inclusive classrooms.
Teachers support each child’s growth. They maintain a conducive classroom that allows students to develop strengths and embrace weaknesses. In addition, many teachers help students become more comfortable with themselves. The teacher creates a classroom that encourages students to be open to their advisers and peers. It fosters an engaged class, where everyone is involved in learning and can equally accept compliments and criticisms. Building great student-to-student and student-to-teacher interactions isn’t the only thing a teacher does. They also try to involve the parents and community members in molding the students. Some invite career-driven individuals to make a speech about their profession and hopefully inspire the children to a future that’s waiting for them.
3-Shape lifelong learners
Learning does not stop once we get old. Everyone goes on a journey throughout life, and there are a lot of lessons along the way. The educator does not only provide lessons on their assigned subject but also shares anecdotes about their life that young people might also encounter in the future. The teacher is a hero because they prepare the students for life in school and outside of it. They help a child develop values and principles that guide them to the right career and life path. They encourage the student to ask questions like, “What future do I want to pursue?” or “What are my life goals and objectives?” and start working their way from there. Success comes when a person isn't afraid to go outside their boundaries and discover new learnings. The teacher usually promotes affinity to learning outside the classroom, prompting the young one to explore the possibilities life can offer.
4-Selfless service
Students have different personalities that the teacher has to navigate to deliver conducive learning to every child. Educators need to make students feel that they have a voice and choice. Therefore, the teachers remain careful with their words, using a language that motivates the students to sustain their persistence and effort to learn. Teachers shift their instructional language to make students feel they have a choice. For example, instead of “You need to...” the teacher can say, “You can try to...”, or “I want you to...” In this aspect, the teacher provides student-centric teaching, allowing youngsters to understand that they are at the front seat of their learning. The educator is there to guide them and not agonize them with school work.
5-Teachers want everyone to succeed.
Teachers become the first role model for children because they are present when the child is ready to learn. Teachers will become parental figures to many students. They care for their students and help them prepare for what life will bring. Like all of us, teachers have problems and frustrations that don’t concern their class. However, they still have to remain patient and kind to their students, especially those struggling to learn. They are heroes in this light, seeing how they stretch themselves to ensure continuous learning for the young ones.
